William Wilson Gingles was born in Henry County, Illinois, May 13, 1867 and died in Onawa, Iowa, Thursday, November 10, 1938. In 1867 his family left Illinois and settled in Fremont County, Iowa. He received his education in a country school, later in the Shenandoah Normal School and finally was graduated from Louisville Medical School, Louisville, Kentucky in 1888. He began practicing medicine at Holly Springs, Iowa, coming to Castana in September 1890. He has remained here since that time except for one year in Portland, Oregon, in 1893. On April 4, 1894 he was married to Retta Smith. To this union three children were born; two sons, Earl of Onawa and Donald, who died in 1928 and one daughter, Ruth of Castana.

Funeral services were held in the Community church in Castana Saturday afternoon, November 12, with Rev. E.D. Calkins in charge, assisted by J.E. McNamara.

Burial was in the Kennebec Cemetery.
