John O. Perry, 77, Onawa, Iowa died Wednesday, January 2, 2002 at his home.

John was born July 26, 1924 at Onawa, the son of Fred and Ella (Hyatt) Perry. He has been in the United States Army 1944 until 1946 and served during WWII in the European – African-Middle Eastern Theatre where he received 2 Bronze Stars. He was married to Rose Marie Wright October 9, 1945 at Onawa.

John was a mechanic at the Ford Garage and was an attendant at Phillips 6 and Standard service stations. He also served as the animal control officer for the city of Onawa. He was a member of Monona County VFW Post #2694.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie; a daughter and her husband, Nancy and Everett Allen of Onawa; 2 grandchildren, Brent Allen of Onawa, Iowa and Shelly and her husband Tim Merritt of Sioux City; a sister, Nadine Adams of Malvern, Iowa and 2 brothers and their wives, Robert and Rosetta of Onawa and Fred and Leota of Ava, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Elwood Perry and 3 sisters, Betty Riley, Lucille Weidt and Maxine Thayer.

Memorial services were 2:00 PM Friday, January 4, 2002 at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Special music was “The Old Rugged Cross.” Burial was in Kennebec Cemetery in Castana, Iowa with Military Rites conducted by the United States Army and Monona County VFW Post #2694.
