Carl Jacob Bartels, 92, Castana, died Wednesday, November 21, 1984, in the Burgess Memorial Hospital.He was born December 8, 1891, in Hanover Township near Charter Oak.

He married Minnie Peterson, March 2, 1912, at Ute. She died December 11, 1918. He farmed in the Soldier - Castana Community. He married Elsie Kuhlman September 1,1920, at Onawa. She died in 1963.

Carl was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Irene Reinbold of Mason City; Mrs. Jess (Evelyn) Phipps of Turin and Mrs. Marie McDonald of Castana; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

His parents, two wives, one brother, four sisters, step-son and step-daughter preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 1984, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with Pastor Philip Ritter officiating. The organist was Mrs. Hazel Bruning, Mrs. Norma Jean Dose was soloist.

Pallbearers were Leo Dose, LeRoy Kuhlmann, Clifford Longlee, Donald Davis, Arnold Zediker and Gordon Lane.

Interment was in the St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with arrangements by Walter Funeral Home, Mapleton, la.
