Elmer Paris Palmer, age 86, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Private Family Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018, in the Mt. Hope Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. Rev. Jena Manchester will officiate; The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Elmer Paris Palmer, one of five children born to Ralph and Lela (Green) Palmer, was born on November 18, 1931, at home northwest of Mapleton, IA.

On July 31, 1954, Elmer married Mary Rose in the St. John’s United Methodist Church of Mapleton. The couple were blessed with two children Richard and James.

In the past, Elmer owned the local Crop Mate Fertilizer Plant, Mary’s Hammer House Bar, and farmed south of Mapleton, IA. He loved playing guitar and wood working.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, son James Palmer, three brothers, and one sister.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Palmer of Mapleton, IA; son Richard Allen Palmer of Mapleton, IA; grandchildren Kimberly (Jessie) Vogt of Sioux City, IA, Jennifer (Brett Werner) Palmer of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Branden (Shelby Jensen) Palmer of Mapleton, IA; eight great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ted Rose; sister-in-law Donna Myers; special niece Cora (Amos) Parr all of Mapleton, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
