14 March 2018Mike Marley, 66, of Blencoe, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at home following a lengthy illness.
A funeral mass will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Blencoe, with Father Michael Erpelding celebrant. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 13, 2018, with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 P.M., at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Michael William Marley was born on May 21, 1951, to James J. and Bette (Torticill) Marley, in Onawa. He graduated from St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hays, Kansas, in 1969, serving as Brigade Commander his senior year. He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and was then hired by Johnson Control as a systems analyst.
He returned to Blencoe to farm with his dad and brothers, and then for his Uncle Bob Marley. Mike later became a full-time caregiver for his uncle. Mike has lived in the house that originally belonged to his grandparents, Mike and Mary Marley.
Mike was a jack of all trades and could fix anything from a clock to an automobile. He helped restore an MG sports car that was the pride and joy for the Marley brothers.
Mike enjoyed his family and friends, and especially loved his nieces and nephews. He always found and provided "kid entertainment" for holidays, and patiently helped them fly kites, fill water balloons, and assisted with bubble wands and squirt guns.
He was a kind and caring soul.
Survivors include two sisters and their husbands, Teresa (Dennis) McCandless and Mary Ann (Paul) Lage; sister-in-law, Charlene Marley; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Bette Marley; three brothers, Joseph and wife Ann (Drew) Marley, Pat Marley, and Tom Marley; and one nephew, Dan Lage.
