Alva "Lee" Goss, 72, of Onawa, passed away Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, in Galveston, Texas, after a brief illness.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Onawa. Condolence cards may be sent to the family at 53 LeBrun Court, Galveston, Texas 77551. Arrangements are under the direction of Carnes Funeral Home in Houston, Texas.

Lee was born of Cherokee heritage in Muskogee, Okla., on March 6, 1945. He lived in Oregon for several years before moving back to Oklahoma. He then joined the U.S. Air Force, volunteering for Vietnam, where he was sent to Cho-Lon, RVN and earned his E-5 stripes and two Purple Hearts. After discharge, he returned to Salem, Ore., where he worked for West Coast Grocery and met his soulmate, Linda.

Lee and Linda married on Sept. 21, 1996. They subsequently moved to Boise, Idaho, for a few years before moving to Dickinson, Texas, and then on to his current home in Onawa.

Lee and Linda spent the winters in Galveston, Texas, and Lake Havasu City, Ariz., where he liked to golf, play pickleball, go to the dog park and feed the ducks on the lake. He also enjoyed working on the computer, racing around the yard on his riding lawn mower, or tinkering with projects in the garage. He was also a member of MENSA.

Lee is survived by his wife, Linda, in Onawa; his two stepdaughters, Laurie Maxson and husband, Kelsey, and Lana Lander of Galveston; two siblings, Ben Goss of Oakland, Calif., and Barbara George of Klamath Falls, Ore.; and a cousin, Jo Goss Wilcox of Bullhead City, Ariz.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Murrow Indian Children's Home, 2540 Murrow Circle, Muskogee, OK 74403
