Douglas Martin Schnoor 1946 - 2017

Douglas Martin Schnoor was born Dec. 26, 1946, the son of Martin and Hedwig Schnoor. He died Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb, at the age of 70.

Doug was born in Ute and was baptized in Christ on Jan. 19, 1947, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ute. He was confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ute, on April 15, 1962.

Doug received his elementary education in Ute and graduated from Charter Oak-Ute High School in 1965. He joined the United States Army in March 1966 and was honorably discharged in February 1968. He was a member of the American Legion Homer Hall Post 66 of Charter Oak. Douglas was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Charter Oak.

On May 8, 1971, Douglas was united in marriage to Mariann Boettger at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. The couple made their first home outside of Charter Oak. They were blessed with two daughters and one son.

Doug began farming after he was married and also helped area farmers shell corn and bale hay and straw. Doug worked at the Denison Livestock for nearly 40 years.

Doug was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed playing cards, especially Euchre with his family and Old Maid with his grandkids. He enjoyed watching sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye, Kansas City Chiefs, and New York Yankees fan.

In the summer, Doug enjoyed gardening and going to the stock car races at various race tracks. He was a hard and dedicated worker and enjoyed working with livestock and being outside. He loved visiting with everyone he met.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws; a brother, Myron; and a sister, Linda.

Left to cherish Doug’s memory are his wife, Mariann; two daughters, Tammy and husband, Brian, and Tracey and husband, Paul; one son, Troy and significant other, Lindsey; five grandchildren: Shannon and her husband, Barrett, Jennifer, Benjamin, Sarah,and Joseph; one step-grandchild, Doug; two sisters, Theresa and husband, John, and Debra; nephews and a niece; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 13, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.

Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the service with graveside rites held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak.

Organist Marjorie Neddermeyer provided accompaniment for congregational hymn’s “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Vince Gill’s recording of “Go Rest High on That Mountain” was also played.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Jennifer Zehner, Benjamin Zehner, Michelle Mohr, Shannon Queen, Barrett Queen, Adam Schnoor, Joseph Roberts, Sarah Roberts, Doug Roberts, Lance Howrey, Jason Howrey, and Blake Grothe.

Serving as pallbearers were Harry Riessen, Gibson Magill, Bob Boettger, Tom Pauley, Russ Steffen, and Bruce Lee.

Military Honors were members of Homer Hall Post 66 of Charter Oak.

The family invited everyone to return to the church for fellowship and lunch provided by the Ladies Aid and Staley’s.

The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
