Marcella D. (Mohr) Kuehl, 96, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, December 8, 2017, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with Pastor Chris LaBoube and Ken Bakalyar officiating. Burial will follow at St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be 3:30 – 6:30 P.M. Thursday, December 7, 2017, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Marcella was born on March 9, 1921, on a farm two miles east of Ute, Iowa, to Fred and Anna (Kiepe) Mohr. She was baptized on April 3, 1921, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, and was confirmed in the same church on April 14, 1935. She attended country school for five years, and then attended the Ute Lutheran School for three years.

Marcella and Louis A. Kuehl were united in marriage on June 17, 1941, in a private ceremony at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, by Reverend Hugo Nieting.

The couple settled in the Ute and Mapleton areas, residing on various rental farms until 1956, when they purchased the Kragle Estate Farm two and one-half miles northwest of Mapleton on Highway 141, now more commonly known as Kuehl's Corner.

In 1981, they retired from farming and moved to Mapleton. In 1992, they purchased an acreage just down the road from the "Home Place" and returned to country living. Louis passed away on March 29, 2012, after 70 happy years of marriage.

Marcella was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, and was involved in many of its activities. She loved working at the Braille Center at the church, and also served on its Altar Guild and quilting for World Relief.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Gary (Judy) of Mapleton, IA, Kenneth (Lois) of Bonita Springs, FL, Don (Diana) of Jackson, MN, and Arlen (Cindy) of Deerwood, MN; thirteen grandchildren: Scott (SueAnn) Kuehl, Kevin (special friend Brenda Kuhlmann) Kuehl, Chad (Monica) Kuehl, Brent (special friend Jeanette St. Vincent) Kuehl, Trisha (special friend Dana Fry) Kent, Mindy (Adam) Woydziak, Sharon (Ben) Henning, Leah (Aaron) Garner, Lance (Emily) Kuehl, Chris Kuehl, Amanda (Len) Wonnenberg, Justin (Ashton) Kuehl and Cory Kuehl; sixteen great-grandchildren: Ashley Kuehl, Trey Kuehl, Cassidy Kuehl, Carrington Kuehl, Alexis Kuehl, Braxton Kuehl, C.J. Kuehl, Mackenzie Kuehl, Noah Kent, Cameryn Kent, Gavin Garner, Logan Henning, Ellie Wonnenberg, Eli Wonnenberg, Harper Henning, Oakley Kuehl; two siblings and their spouses, Barbara (Warren Thies) Timm and Fred (Darlene) Mohr, all of Ute, IA; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Kuehl of Denison, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anna Mohr; her husband, Louis A. Kuehl; three sisters and their husbands; Edna (Walter) Jahn, Ruth (Lawrence) Strait, and Phyllis (Don) Runkle; niece, Sheila Runkle; and two brothers-in-law, Norman Kuehl and Ronnie Timm.
