13 December 2017Mary Jane Sorenson, 93, of Onawa, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 7, 2017, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.
Graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in the Onawa Cemetery, with Pastor Michael Lewis officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, December 11, 2017, with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M., at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Mary Jane was born on October 25, 1924, in rural Blencoe, Iowa, the only child of Raymond C. and Rose M. (Arndt) Naden. She was raised in the Blencoe area, and graduated from Blencoe High School.
Mary Jane and Virgil T. Sorenson were united in marriage on January 12, 1950, in Onawa. This union was blessed with two sons, Steve and Les.
She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Green Gable in Onawa, and then she and Virgil owned and operated Sorenson Tire in Onawa.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa, and of its Women's Council. She enjoyed reading and cooking.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Steve (Debbie) Sorenson of Omaha, NE and Les (Kay) Sorenson of Onawa, IA; one grandson, Matt (Lacey Williams) Sorenson of Wayne, NE; two great-granddaughters, Lorelai and Maggie Sue Sorenson; one sister-in-law, Bessie Sorenson of Onawa, IA; and many nephews, nieces, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil T. Sorenson on July 22, 2002; and one grandson, Josh Sorenson.
Memorials in Mary Jane's memory are preferred to the First Christian Church in Onawa.
