Obituary of Wilfred True Eichhorn
1982

Wilfred “Skeeter” True Eichhorn, the son of Rolly Casper and Alvina Steinhoff Eichhorn was born January 29, 1912 at Holly Springs, Iowa. He died on Sunday, September 19, at the age of 70 years 7 months and 20 days.

As a young boy, he moved with his parents to the Rodney, Iowa community, where he resided until joining the U.S. Army during World War II. After his discharge in 1946 he returned to Rodney where he owned and operated the Eichhorn grocery store for many years. He married Mabel Siebert on July 30, 1950 at Luton, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born. He was very devoted Christian father and was highly respected by his many friends.

In 1965 he and his family came to Mapleton where he lived for the remainder of his life. Skeeter continued working in the grocery business, having worked for the Klotz Food Market and presently working at the Mapleton IGA food market.

He was baptized at the St. John’s Evangelical Church at German City near Hornick on April 21, 1912, and was confirmed on December 7, 1924 at this same church. It was at this same church that he was stricken with an apparent heart attack last Sunday while participating in their centennial celebration and was called to his Eternal home. He and his family were made members of St. Matthews Lutheran Church at Mapleton on January 2, 1966.

Skeeter was also widely known for his hobby as a piano player for the Arnold Richardson and the Bob Conley orchestras. He was a member of the American Legion, Loren Hollister Post No. 496 at Mapleton.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Mabel, 2 daughters, Mrs. Steven (Cynthia) Engelkes of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Mrs. Brent (Carla) Takemoto of Bowling Green, Ohio, 1 grandson, Matthew Edward Engelkes.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Services were held Wednesday, September 22, 1982, 10:30 at the St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Mapleton. Pastor Phillip Ritter and Vicar Kurt Rutz officiating. Organist was Mrs. Hazel Bruning.

Pallbearers were Gary Warrick, Stan Jensen, Johnnie Siebert, Tracy Cleveland, Dennis Parsley and Dan Rogers Military rites were conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496, Mapleton.

Interment was at Graceland Park Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa, under the direction of Walter Funeral Home.
