Leona M. Sander, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at her residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Sander was born Feb. 8, 1927, the daughter of Harold R. and Mary M. (Weber) Hanner, in rural Hornick, Iowa, at the home of her grandparents when her parents were in the process of moving. She attended all 12 years at the Holly Spring, Iowa, school.

She was married to Robert L. Sander in Vermillion, S.D., in 1948. Mr. Sander died Jan. 26, 1980. She worked at Sioux City Battery Co. for six years and Johnson Biscuit (now Interbake Foods) for 28 years. She enjoyed many hobbies and flowers.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dennis A. and Cheri Sander of Camden, S.C., and Bruce A. and Robyn Sander of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren, Mandi and her husband, Jeffrey Kirkpatrick, Kelli Sander, Aron Sander, Nicole Sander, Danette and her husband, Christopher Bianchetti and Derek Sander and his wife, Jenny; a great-grandson, Ethan Kirkpatrick; a great-granddaughter, Madison Sander; and a brother and his wife, Robert "Bud" and Mary Hanner of Hornick, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her maternal grandparents, Edward and Christina Weber; her paternal grandparents, Henry and Polly Hanner; and a sister, Verda Peterson.
