Funeral services for John R. (Jack) Thompson, 66, were at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 9, 1983 in St. Brigid's Catholic Church in Grand Junction, Iowa. Rev. Blase Schumacher officiated at the service. Charles Radke was organist.
Casket bearers were Bret Hodne, Nate Hodne, Joel Tiffany, Scott Hodne, Greg Tiffany and Bart Dobson. Interment was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Grand Junction, Iowa.
John Robert Thompson, son of Herman and May Prichard Thompson, was born August 13, 1918 at Mapleton, Iowa. He attended the local schools and graduated from high school in 1936. Jack, as he was known to his many friends, attended and graduated from Morningside College at Sioux City in 1940.
On February 16,1942, Jack was united in marriage with Faye Haworth at Mapleton. They were the parents of 10 children. Mr. Thompson was in the grocery business at Mapleton until 1954 when the family moved to Grand Junction. Mr. Thompson owned and operated a grocery store there, retiring in 1978. He had been a member of the Volunteer Fire Department, served on the Town Council, and on the Library and Light Plant Boards and had been a long-time member of the Lions Club, all in Grand Junction.
Mr. Thompson, died Saturday, August 6, 1983, suddenly of a heart attack at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Faye; their children: Jack of Arlington, Virginia; Joan (Mrs. Steve) Tiffany and Becky, both of Grand Junction; Julie (Mrs. Thomas) Stinard of Ely, Iowa; Barbara (Mrs. Mark) Thompson of Fort Dodge; Cathy (Mrs. Stan) Curtis of Ames; Michael and his wife, Mary of Kansas City, Missouri; Dan and his wife, Tina and Doug, all of Iowa City; Susan (Mrs. Bart) Dobson of Ames and Sally (Mrs. Ron) Hodne of Manning; 17 grandchildren; one brother, Don of Sioux City, Iowa
