Mary “Kat” Manning, age 68, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the Mercy Medical Center of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Immaculate Conception, of Sioux City, Iowa. Father Daniel Rupp will officiate; with committal services following in the Calvary Cemetery of Sioux City, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2017, with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., conducted by David Johnston at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel of Sioux City, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mary Kathleen “Kat” Manning the daughter of Chauncey Dean and Mary Charlotte (Clarke) Webster, was born on January 22, 1949, in the Onawa Hospital of Onawa, Iowa. The family lived and farmed near Castana, Iowa. After the sudden loss of Kats brother Dean, the family relocated to Onawa.

Kat graduated from West Monona High School with the class of 1968. She then attended beauty school and graduated from Tyler Beauty School in Sioux City, Iowa. She started her career as a hair stylist at Gingham Girl.

On April 25, 1970, Kat married John Manning in the Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Kat enjoyed being a stay at home mother until all of her children were in school. She then started working at Morningside Drug. Over the years, Kat sought out other means of income and got interested in selling Shaklee products and grew to a Supervisor position. At one time she had over 300 under her guidance. She enjoyed attending nutrition and cosmetic seminars. Kat was also a Tupperware dealer and earned her way to Manager receiving her own car.

Kat worked various jobs over the years. She worked at the Onawa Dairy Queen, WinnaVegas, Sunrise Manor (styling hair), cocktail waitress at “Stormin Norman”, and the Preswick Apartments. Throughout her careers, Kat continued to enjoy styling hair.

Along with a busy life as a mother and working outside the home, Kat believed in volunteerism. She was a very active member of the American Business Women Association. She held many offices in the ABWA and earned the title of Princess. In high school she was a member of Rainbow where she also held many offices.

Patriotism was always a strong element in Kat’s life. She loved her country and the veterans who defended America. She donated generously to support veteran issues.

Survivors are her husband John Manning of Sioux City, IA; children James (Nancy) Manning of Jackson, NE, Virginia (Jim) Preston of Dakota City, NE, Susanne Herbst (Brian Kleve) of Sanborn, IA, and Joe (Sarah) Manning of Sioux City, IA; brother John (Cathy Miller) Webster of Whiting, IA; sisters Claudine Johnston and Elizabeth Anne Stockfleth both of Onawa, IA; 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Kat was preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law Randy Herbst; two brothers Dean and Daniel Webster; two brothers-in-law Harold Johnston and Don Stockfleth; maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts, uncles, and other loved ones.
