Hazel I. Hanson, 98, of Castana, Iowa died Friday, April 14, 2017 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Castana Community Church in Castana, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs, officiating. Burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Monday, April 17, 2017 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. followed by an Order of the Eastern Star Service. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Hazel Inez was born January 2, 1919 at Ute, Iowa the daughter of Brady C. and Ernestine (Ridley) Riddle. She grew up in the Ute area and graduated from Ute High School in 1937. After graduation, she was employed at the Monona County Farm near Castana, Iowa.

Hazel and Elvin H. Hanson were united in marriage on November 22, 1939. Four children were born to this union, Harvey, Harold, Brady, and Lois. Elvin preceded her in death on June 24, 1984.

Hazel was a lifelong homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, and baking wedding and birthday cakes. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Hazel was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Cottonwood Creek Club, Sunshine Quilting Club, and TOPS club where she was past Queen of Iowa.

Hazel was also a member of the Castana Community Church in Castana, Iowa where she was very active in their Ladies Aid and also served as Sunday School Superintendant for many years.

Survivors include her children, Harvey (Nancy) Hanson of Castana, IA, Brady (Cathy) Hanson of Castana, IA, and Lois (Heral) Jensen of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Christopher (Patty) Hanson, Steven (Kim) Hanson, Kenneth (Wade Petersen) Hanson, Julie (Steve) Whitney, Ann Cox, Pamela (Randy) Eminger, Bradley (Mary Jo) Hanson, Robert (Maureen) Hanson, Cynthia Hanson, Theresa Leslie, Gary Jensen, and Michael Jensen; many great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren; her brother, Myron (Diane) Riddle of Kearney, NE; three sisters-in-law, June Riddle of Onawa, IA, Rosalie Riddle of Whiting, IA, and Frances Riddle of Ohio; and a special friend, Chris Baker with Home Health.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Harold Hanson; four brothers, Charles Riddle, Floyd Riddle, Loren Riddle, and Leonard Riddle; and her sister, Neva (Fred) Olson.
