1 March 2017Elizabeth Eileen Reed, 89, of Turin, Iowa died Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Castana Community Church in Castana, Iowa with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will follow in Kennebec Cemetery near Castana. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Monday, February 27, 2017 with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Elizabeth Eileen was born November 28, 1927 in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Betty (McCall) Nutt. She grew up near Castana, Iowa and graduated from Castana High School in 1945. She attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City.
Eileen and Donald Reed were united in marriage in 1947 at the Castana Community Church. To this union one daughter was born. The couple lived in Onawa for a short time before moving to their farm near Turin, where they have resided for over sixty years.
The couple owned and operated Reed Realty in Onawa until 2015. She ran the local Weight Watchers for twelve years.
She enjoyed plants, antiques, and her cats. She was a member of the Castana Community Church.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-nine years, Donald Reed of Turin, IA; one granddaughter, Teniesha Kessler; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert V. and Betty Alice (McCall) Nutt; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jerry Kessler; and four siblings, William F. Nutt, Louise (Nutt) Villeneuve, Ernest "Hickory" Nutt, and Robert E. Nutt.
