ONAWA, Iowa -- Marilyn Kay Swain, 68, of Onawa died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with Pastor Chuck Layton officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Magnolia Cemetery, Magnolia, Iowa. There will be no visitation.

Marilyn was born May 18, 1937, at River Sioux, Iowa, the daughter of Paul and Vivian Swain. She attended grade school in River Sioux and graduated from Little Sioux High School. She attended the University of Iowa, and in her junior year was afflicted with a severe case of depression. After several years of doctoring, she eventually was able to work in a nursing home in Omaha, Neb., for 10 years until its closing. After her father's death in 1977, she and her mother decided that they must move to a larger place and, in 1983, made their home in Onawa.

Marilyn was diagnosed with cancer in 2005 and had been in Burgess Health Center and Elmwood Care Centre, both in Onawa, the past three months.

She was a member of United Methodist Church. She was not an outgoing person, but was strong in her faith.

Survivors include her mother, Vivian Swain of Onawa; aunts and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father.
