Lyle E. Lambert, 79, Onawa, Iowa , died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at his residence.

Lyle was born June 6, 1926 at Onawa, Iowa, the son of Thomas E and Zaida (Miller) Lambert. He was raised in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School in 1943 He worked for a short period for the Corps of Engineers before joining the United States Navy January 28, 1944. He served during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Area and the Philippine Liberation before his discharge, April 15, 1946.

Lyle and Barbara Carritt were united in marriage May 10, 1947 in Onawa and made their home at Onawa. He was a barge pilot with the Army Corp of Engineers. He was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barb of Onawa, a daughter and her husband Beth and Jim Trucano of Dakota Dunes, SD ; two granddaughters, Megan and Sarah Trucano; a sister and her husband, Louise and Jule "Vaughn " Goerhing of Sioux City, IA. , two brothers-in-law, Jerry and his wife, Mary Lou Carritt and Joe Carritt all of Onawa , a sister-in-law and her husband, Judy and Harlan Schopke of Emerson, NE and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Christine, a brother, Bernard and a brother-in-la w and his wife, Donald and Nancy Carritt.

Funeral services were 10: 30 A M Friday, February 17, 2006 at First Christian Church, Onawa with Rev Dennis Olsen, officiating. Music selections were "Amazing Grace" and "Tis Midnight and on Olive's Brow "with Don Collison, soloist and Ruth Jordan, organist. Burial was in Onawa Cemetery. There was no visitation. Arrangements were under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.

Casket bearers were Justin "Charlie" Carritt, Jeff Carritt, Rand y Ping, Jack Gibler, Jerry Shaffer and Gary Ellison.
