C. Maxine Thoreson, 73, of Sioux City died Sunday, March 1, 1998 at her residence following a brief illness.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Terry Hudson, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visiting will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Mrs. Thoreson was born May 5, 1924, in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Mathilda (Casperson) Longlee. She graduated from Castana High School in 1941.

She attended Samuel’s School of Cosmetology in Sioux City and was employed briefly at Louisa’s Beauty Shop in Ute, Iowa.

She married Raymond Thoreson on March 26, 1949, in Soldier, Iowa. They moved to Sioux City in 1956. He died December 27, 1991 in Sioux City.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Deborah and David Speidel of Norfolk, Nebraska and Lynne and Philip McBride of Sioux City; a brother, Clifford of Onawa, Iowa; three sisters, Esther Kuhlman of Onawa and Helen and her husband, Everett Hord and Lillian and her husband, Donald Lane, all of Sioux City and three grandchildren, Matthew and Kari Speidel and John McBride.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Melvin, Harold and Carl and a sister, Mary Knutson.
