SERGEANT BLUFF | Wayne E. Johnson, 84, of Sergeant Bluff, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Burial will be in St. Clair Township Cemetery, Ute, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wayne was born on Sept. 13, 1932, in Moorhead, Iowa, the son of John and Edith (Buckland) Johnson. He grew up in Moorhead and helped on the family farm, until he joined the U.S. Army in 1952.

After returning from the service, he met and married Dorothy Shultz. To this union four children were born.

Wayne is survived by his two daughters, Jan Clarey (Rey) Salinas of Charles City, Iowa, and Kathy (Mike) Waderich of Hornick, Iowa; two stepchildren, Verla Haislet of Cherokee, Iowa, and Wayne Glieck of Davis City, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Shannon, Wendy, and Aaron; and three great-grandchildren, Aedan, Quentin and Keneleigh.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Robert and Terry; two brothers, Donald and Leonard; three step-siblings, Jean, Elvin and Leona Johnson; and a special friend, Alice Wynn.
