Paul Edwin was born September 28, 1930 at the Lutheran Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa to Paul A. and Sadie (Miller) Nagel. He spent his childhood days in Grant Center, Iowa until he was fourteen when his mother passed away. He lived in Sioux City with his grandparents for a short time. He attended school in Grant Center and Sioux City.

Paul married Marlys Ann Hodgdon on March 9, 1956, and to this union two children were born, John and Jeanette. He was so proud of all his children and grandchildren and has become a legend to them because there was nothing he could not do or make for them.

Paul became a Journeyman Ironworker in 1952 out of Local #184 in Sioux City, Iowa. This took him to many places across the country. He worked for Bechtel Corporation as a project superintendant for many years in the power division. Paul worked on many powerhouses around the nation. He was a highly respected engineer, and was called to many jobs when there were problems with labor or suppliers. He worked very well with people and made several lifelong friendships at many job sites. He also developed several new tools in the process, and is credited for many ideas and procedures. Paul also worked as a consultant for several companies after he "retired". He put gates in many locks and dams around the country, from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to the Mississippi Tombigbee Waterway. Paul was very proud to receive his sixty year ironworkers union pin in 2012.

Paul was also a Thirty-Second Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, and a member of the Shrine organization. He was very proud of his Masonic membership and was a member of the Vesper Lodge #223 AF and AM of Onawa, Iowa. He was also a member of the Eastern Star organization with his wife.

Paul was a very kind person who had many friends. Everyone who knew Paul, for however brief or long, has special stories of something he had done for them, or a joke he told them. He had a way of telling stories like no one else, and his sense of humor will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Marlys Nagel of Ticonic, Iowa; step-sister, Dorothy Reed of Lebanon, Tennessee; his son, John (Jody) Nagel of Lawrenceville, Georgia with grandsons, Ethan and Bryant of Lawrenceville, Georgia; his daughter, Jeanette (Bob) Dobson of Sioux City, Iowa with grandchildren, Jeffery (Sara Beth) stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, and Corey and Cale of Sioux City, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother; and one step-sister.
Memorials may be directed to the family in Paul's memory.
