Phyllis Lorena (Bothwell) Christensen was born on October 19, 1929, to Pearl (Petty) and Thomas Bothwell in Little Sioux, Iowa. She was raised in Little Sioux and graduated from Little Sioux High School. Phyllis married Vernon Roy Christensen on August 14, 1946. The couple farmed near Moorhead and later moved into Moorhead. Phyllis became a resident of Rose Vista Nursing Home on June 22, 2006. Vernon died in 2007.

Phyllis was a member of the Moorhead Christian Church. She worked at both the Moorhead and Soldier banks. She loved to decorate every room in her house for Christmas. Holidays were very special to her and she loved to make them special for the grandkids. She loved her grandkids.

Phyllis died Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa attaining the age of 87 years and 20 days.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Christensen; son-in-law, Darrell Odefey; three grandsons, twins Ricky and Randy Odefey and Kevin Odefey; brother, Gene Bothwell; and half-sister, Anita Nuzum. She is survived by two children, Sandra (Steve) Fouts of Dunlap, Iowa and Tracy Christensen of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Lavonne Stewart of Missouri Valley, Iowa; four half-siblings, Wanda (Martin) McColley, Gardena Wallis, and Joe Swanberg all of Little Sioux, Iowa, Jerry (Wanda) Swanberg of Ankeny, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2016, at Fouts Funeral Home in Dunlap, Iowa. The officiant was Beth Fouts. The recorded musical selections were "In The Garden" and " How Great Thou Art." The final resting place is at Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead, Iowa.

Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine was in charge of the arrangements.
