24 August 2016Danny K. "Dan" Daugherty, 70, of Sioux City, Iowa, died unexpectedly on Monday, August 15, 2016 in Sioux City.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 22, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis and Jack Gibler officiating. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday, August 21, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.
Danny Kay Daugherty was born July 20, 1946 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Darrell, Sr. and Juanita (Hutcheson) Daugherty. He graduated from Onawa High School in 1964.
Following graduation, he worked in Omaha, Nebraska before joining the Iowa National Guard in 1965 and serving until 1971. He worked at the Sioux City Air National Guard Base and the Federal Envelope Company in Omaha for a time. He then became employed with the United States Postal Service in Sioux City in 1980 until his retirement in February 2008.
Dan and Marybeth Byrum were united in marriage on June 5, 1993 in Davenport, Iowa.
Danny enjoyed camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, scuba diving, and watching a variety of football teams. He loved animals, especially his dog Buddy. Danny had a heart of gold.
Survivors include his wife, Marybeth Daugherty of Sioux City, IA; one son, Brian Daugherty of Omaha, NE; four siblings, Joyce Schulz of Lincoln, NE, Roger (Pat) Daugherty of Kansas, Vickie Liepman of Omaha, NE, and Larry (Cathy) Daugherty of Tekemah, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell, Sr. and Juanita Daugherty; two brothers, Bobby Daugherty and Darrell Daugherty, Jr.; and one brother-in-law, Harold Schulz.
