Tony David Davis, age 53, of Mapleton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at the Burgess Health Center of Onawa, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 23, 2016, at the Armstrong ~ Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa. Major Von Vandiver & Marie Whiteing will officiate the service, with the committal services following in the Mount Hope Cemetery of Mapleton, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Armstrong ~ Van Houten Funeral Home, of Mapleton, Iowa. The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

On December 23, 1962, Tony David Davis the son of Merle and Joyce (Chamberlain) Davis was born in Sioux City, Iowa.

Tony grew up in Mapleton, Iowa, graduating from Maple Valley with the class of 1981. Right out of high school, he became the manager at Davis Motor Company which specialized in auto body repair and used car sales. On October 9, 1986, Tony married the love of his life Sandra Kay Beers in Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Mapleton and were blessed with two children Melissa and Eric.

Tony served as the mayor of Mapleton from 1995 to 1997. He was a certified reserve police officer for the Woodbury Country Sheriff’s Office Reserve Unit from 1999 to 2004, served as a reserve police officer for the department in Sloan, Iowa, from 2003 to 2006, and city of Mapleton police reserve unit from 2000-2014. Tony was on the Maple Valley Development Incorporated volunteer board, was serving a current term on the Mapleton City Council, and was part of Rebuild and Recover for Mapleton, Iowa after the tragic tornado hit Mapleton in 2011. To say he was active in his community is an understatement as Tony was community.

He treasured his family most of all, working side by side with his wife Sandy as they managed the Maple Motel in Mapleton. Tony operated his HAM radio and enjoyed talking to strangers miles away. His witty comments, outgoing personality, and passion for his community will be remembered fondly by all who knew him or had the pleasure of having a conversation with him over his HAM radio.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 29 years, Sandra Davis of Mapleton, Iowa; children, Melissa (Jary) Vermeys of Kingsley, Iowa, Eric (Jeni) Davis of Sioux City, Iowa; granddaughters, Madison Vermeys, Eyerlin Davis, Julia Davis, and Emalea Davis, brother, Steven Davis of Glennrock, Wyoming; nephews, Jonathan “J.R.” Davis, Aaron Davis, and Clayton Davis, mother-in-law, Joan Beers of Mapleton, Iowa; brother-in-law, Randy (Laurie) Beers of Anthon, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lorraine Davis of Ida Grove, Iowa; his loyal four legged companion, Gaston the black Labrador; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Joyce Davis; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
