DeWayne Mesenbrink, 84, of Onawa, Iowa died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Michael Lewis, officiating. Burial will be in Jordan Cemetery, Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 12, 2016 at the Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Marvin DeWayne Mesenbrink was born November 13, 1931 in Denison, Iowa the son of Marvin and Hazel (Meadows) Mesenbrink. He grew up near Moorhead, Iowa and attended a one room school house till the eighth grade.
DeWayne and Phyllis Rowland were united in marriage on June 7, 1952 at the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa. Seven children were born to this union, Barbara, Darrell, Debbie, Dennis, Joann, Kevin, and Jack.
DeWayne farmed and was a heavy duty machinery mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and making bird houses that were put up in Preparation Canyon State Park near Moorhead, Iowa. DeWayne was the happiest when spending time with all of his family.
Survivors include his wife of sixty four years, Phyllis Mesenbrink of Onawa, IA; his children, Barbara (Richard) Blake of Mapleton, IA, Debbie Neubaum of Mapleton, IA, Dennis (Carol) Mesenbrink of Council Bluffs, IA, Joann (Mitch) Gibler of Onawa, IA, Kevin (Carlann) Mesenbrink of Onawa, IA, and Jack (Carla) Mesenbrink of Mapleton, IA; one daughter-in-law, Denise Mesenbrink of Onawa, IA; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; and two sisters, Shirley Ingram of Onawa, IA and Marlene Mesenbrink of Aurora, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Hazel (Meadows) Mesenbrink; son, Darrell Mesenbrink; son-in-law, Jerry Neubaum; two brothers, Larry (Pauline) Mesenbrink and Byron (Jan) Mesenbrink; one sister, Bonnie (Eldon) Yorty; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth Ingram.
