Gary L. Van Dyk, 61, of Onawa, Iowa went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.

Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M. Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Onawa Cemetery in Onawa, Iowa with Pastor Tim Koehn, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force, David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa, and the Monona County VFW Post #2694. A Memorial service will follow at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Evangelical Free Church in Onawa, Iowa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Gary Lee Van Dyk was born November 30, 1954 in Worthington, Minnesota the son of George and Patsy (Pearson) Van Dyk. He attended Sheldon High School and after graduation he went into the United States Air Force. He served with the 40th Air Reserves during Vietnam, until he was injured in Thailand while working on a helicopter.

Gary was a member of the VFW, and at one time owned and operated the Appliance Doktor in Onawa, Iowa. Gary was a quiet man but he loved his Lord and Saviour. He seemed to glow whenever he could witness to other people.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Christina (James) Ruble; his father, George Van Dyk; brother, David (Phyllis) Van Dyk; sister-in-law, Tammy Van Dyk; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patsy Van Dyk; son, Jamie Van Dyk; brother, Dennis Van Dyk; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
