Kenneth "Red" Richardson, 86, of Onawa, Iowa, died Sunday, August 21, 2016 at his home.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa, with Pastor Michael Lewis and Pastor Jerry Quandt officiating. Burial will follow in the Onawa Cemetery with military honors provided by the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa, Iowa and the Monona County VFW Post #2694. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Kenneth "Red" Richardson was born June 22, 1930 in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Walter and Helen (Dorothy) Richardson. He was raised and attended school in Onawa. Red and Shirley Ingram were united in marriage on December 22, 1951 in Onawa. He then served with the United States Army from 1951 to 1953.

He owned and operated Richardson Construction in Onawa for many years. He served as a volunteer firefighter at the Onawa Fire Department and as a city councilman from 1973 to 1975. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Onawa where he served as an elder and deacon. He was an Abu Bekr Shriner and a member of the David McNeill American Legion Post #129 of Onawa and of the Monona County VFW Post #2694.

Red loved the river, fishing, and coaching little league. He enjoyed driving the Sunday school bus for the First Christian Church in Onawa.

Red is survived by three children, Brian Richardson of Papillion, NE, Robann (fiancé Randy Coyle) DuMond of Pisgah, IA, and Janelle Richardson of Onawa, IA; seven grandchildren, Travis (Mollie) Larson of Onawa, IA, Kyle (Maggie) Richardson of Somerville, MA, Kara (Adam) Walling of Elkhorn, NE, Kasia Richardson of Omaha, NE, Bailey Lynn, Bradley Richardson, and Braedan Muff, all of Onawa, IA; four great-grandchildren, Van Magnuson of Omaha, NE and Drake, Felix, and Quinn Walling of Elkhorn, NE; one great-great-granddaughter, Timber Corey; four siblings, Charles (Marilyn) Richardson of Onawa, IA, Larry (Jenette) Richardson of Chandler, AZ, Shirley Harl of Little Sioux, IA, and Virginia (Don) Strauch of Brooklyn Center, MN; and one sister-in-law, Shirley Richardson of Whiting, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Helen Richardson; step-father, George Bowman; his wife of sixty-four years, Shirley E. Richardson; two sons, Bradley Kenneth Richardson and Jay David Richardson; one infant sister; and three brothers, Donald, Keith, and Guy Richardson.
