Cora Belle Steinhoff, 94, of Onawa died October 11, 1986, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa, after a long illness.

She was born March 21, 1892, in Charter Oak to John R. and Almira (Bennett) Patterson. She moved to Rodney with her parents at the age of 3. She attended school in Rodney and the Denison, Iowa Normal Training School. She taught at the Sanford School and schools in Berne and Charter Oak. She graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractics in Davenport and practiced in Mitchell, S.D. and Rodney.

In 1928 she married Herman Steinhoff. They farmed near Smithland until his death December 15, 1964. She had lived at Elmwood Nursing Home in Onawa since June 1974.

She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Onawa.

Survivors include a son, Jack of Smithland, three step-daughters, Mrs. Lewis (Eva) Humphrey and Mrs. Vic (Elda) Byers, both of Anaheim, California and Mrs. Carl (Lois) Kluver of Essex, a sister, Mrs. Zella Christensen of Rodney, fifteen grandchildren and thirty-two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and two sisters.

Services were held at the Rodney United Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 1986 with Reverend Gary DeGeest officiating. Mrs. Ellen Harbeck was the organist; Mrs. Katherine Cox accompanied Clifford Steinhoff who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Rock of Ages.”

Bearers were Jim Steinhoff, Clifford Steinhoff, Mark Steinhoff, Gaylen Steinhoff, John Steinhoff and Fred Teach.

Interment was in the Little Sioux Township Cemetery at Smithland with arrangements by the Willman Funeral Home, Rodney.
