Don E. Cooley, 84, Sioux City, reached eternal rest Monday, October 13, 1986, in Matney Colonial Manor in South Sioux City.

He was born September 20, 1902, near Salix, the son of William Albert Cooley and Delia Lyle Isabel Pickard Cooley. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1922. On February 24, 1931, he was married to Erma Smith at Onawa. The couple lived at Climbing Hill and he operated heavy equipment maintaining roads for Woodbury County. In 1941 the couple moved to rural Sioux City. He was employed as superintendent of the Woodbury County Farm for eight years and had been engaged in farming in rural Sioux City since 1949.

Mr. Cooley was a Methodist. He was a member of the Morningside Masonic Lodge 615 AF & AM and Order of Eastern Star Morningside Chapter 502.

He is survived by his wife, Erma; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas M. (Doris) Rush, rural Sioux City, a brother, Billy of Renick, Mo., three grandsons, three great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 1986, at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City with Rev. Charles Curl officiating. The organist, Mark Haberman, accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Robert Grause, in the selections “Beyond The Sunset” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.” The congregation sang “Alleluia.”

Bearers were Douglas M. Rush, Douglas D. Rush, Dennis Rush, Dale Rush, Robert Rush and Leonard Brown.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery at Albaton with arrangements by the Wood Funeral Home, Sloan.
