Francis G. "Jack" Mings 1932 - 1986

Francis G. "Jack" Mings, 53, of North Sioux City died April 8th in a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11 in Riverside United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry Quandt of First Christian Church in Onawa, Iowa, officiated. Burial was in McCook Cemetery with graveside services conducted by North Sioux City VFW Post 7690, Berkemier Funeral Home of Sioux City is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mings was born July 5, 1932, in Imogene, Iowa, and moved to Castana, Iowa, as a child. He moved to Onawa as a young man. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and came to Sioux City in 1963. He married Marcella Clay, March 9, 1974, at North Sioux City. They made their home in North Sioux City. A heavy equipment operator, he was employed by the city of Sioux City for 12 years. In recent years he was in construction work and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 49.

Mr. Mings was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post 17 of Watertown, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Dawn) Sander of Onawa; a son, Gregory of Post, Texas; three stepsons, Alan Clay of Sacramento, Calif., Curtis Clay of Redding, Calif., and Terry Weinrich of Jefferson, S.D.; three step-daughters, Susan Buelna of Chino, Calif., Gail Parkhill of Sioux City and Vicki Fay of Sergeant Bluff; his mother, Julia Mings, of Onawa; she brothers, Charles of Littleton, Colo.; Clarence of San Diego, Calif.; James, Larry and Kenneth, all of Onawa and Edward of Wharton, N.J.; a sister, Elizabeth Vredenburgh of Lakewood, Colo., and 17 grandchildren.
