Widow of Onawa Civil War Veteran Claimed by Death

Onawa-Iowa—Special; Mrs. Melissa Jane Moorhead, 94, a resident of Monona County 75 years, died here Monday night after a long illness.

Mrs. Moorhead, a widow of Hardy Moorhead, civil war veteran, was born December 1, 1847, in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Moorhead died in 1908.

Mrs. Moorhead was a charter member of Christian Church of Onawa.

Surviving are two sons, Hardy of Buffalo, Wyo., and E.E. of Long Beach, California; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Paine and Jessie Stoohey, both of Onawa. Included among her grandchildren is Wayne M. Ropes of Onawa, republican candidate for secretary of state.
