ONAWA, Iowa | Bernice Amelia Wright, 89, of Onawa died Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with the Rev. Michael Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Bernice Amelia was born on Dec. 7, 1926, in Castana, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Grace (McCrory) Phipps. She attended school in Castana.

Bernice and Donald Wright Sr. were united in marriage on Oct. 3, 1945, in Onawa. Two children were born to this union, Donald Jr. and Sally.

She was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, tending her roses, crocheting, playing piano by ear, and was a great cook who made the best fried chicken and apple pies. She loved spending time with her family and cooked great food for their many picnics. She had the prettiest blue eyes you had ever seen.

She attended First Christian Church in Onawa.

Survivors include her son, Donald Wright Jr. of Onawa; her daughter, Sally (Gary) Goslar of Ute, Iowa; six grandchildren, Tina (Clint) Sachau of Sergeant Bluff, Shawn (Julie Jorstad) Goslar of Sioux City, Travis Wright of Omaha, Nathan (Fiona) Wright of Seattle, Wash., Tyson (Ashley) Wright of Omaha, and Mindy (Duane) Boyle of Danbury, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Skylar Goslar, Lincoln Goslar, Micah Sachau, Carter Boyle, Madison Boyle, Mya Boyle, Trent Huntley, Brittney Huntley, and Devin Huntley; two sisters-in-law, Rose Perry of Onawa, and Margaret (Roger) Hall of Onawa; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 70 years, Donald Wright Sr. on June 10, 2016; daughter-in-law, Karla Wright; parents, Edward and Grace Phipps; four siblings and their spouses, Jesse "Jake" (Evelyn) Phipps, Ida Ellen (Charles "Sid") Huntley, Earl (Gladys) Phipps, and Bud Phipps; father- and mother-in-law, Pete Sr. and Cora Wright; and four brothers-in-law, Albert, Jim, Pete, and Chester "Cork" Wright.
