Dale Everett Bakke 1944 - 2016

Dale E. Bakke, 72, of Hornick, Iowa died Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

A memorial mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 22, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa with Father Jerry Feierfeil, Celebrant, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 21, 2016 with a Scriptural Wake service at 7:00 P.M. with Father Mark Stoll, Celebrant, officiating at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Dale Everett was born March 12, 1944 in Onawa, Iowa the son of Leonard and Esther (Swan) Bakke. He grew up near Albaton, Iowa and graduated in 1962 from Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa. Dale served with the United States Marines in Vietnam.

Dale and Mary "Dorie" Delores Beacom were united in marriage on August 12, 1967 at Elk Point, South Dakota and the couple made their home at Sloan, Iowa until 1975 when they moved to Hornick, Iowa.

Prior to his retirement, Dale was traveling to the east coast working as a telecommunications fiber optic technician.

Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, farming, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Dale loved spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dale was a member St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa and the Hindman Steele American Legion Post #492 of Hornick, IA.

Survivors include his four daughters, Sherry Beacom of Sioux City, IA, Barb (Dave) Esser of Canova, SD, Kelly Jenkins of Sioux City, IA, and Michelle Bakke of Sioux City, IA; two sons, Shawn (Michon) Bakke of Carroll, IA, and Shane (Wendy) Bakke of Carroll, IA; eighteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Kay Kirkpatrick of Sloan, IA; two brothers, Wayne (MaryAnn) Bakke of Sloan, IA, and Tim (Cindy) Bakke of Sloan, IA; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Esther (Swan) Bakke; his wife, Mary "Dorie" Bakke; and one daughter, Debbie Beacom.

Per Dale's wishes, his body was donated to the University of South Dakota for Parkinson's research. Dale's family would like to thank everyone at the Swan House in Carroll, Iowa and the Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa for the loving care Dale received.
