Lucille Hinkel 1925 - 2016

Lucille Hinkel, 90, passed away March 6, 2016 at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, IA.

Lucille was born in Harrison County on December 9, 1925 to Martin and Velma Hinkel. She spent much of her early life in Harrison and Monona Counties, graduating high school in Pisgah, IA in 1944. Lucille married John Albert Hinkel on December 11, 1945.

John and Lucille made their home in Pisgah, IA until about 1961 when they moved to Council Bluffs, IA then later moved to Lincoln, NE before moving back to Onawa, IA in 1990. John passed away September 5, 2005.

Lucille worked in the textile industry, beginning in Pendleton Woolen Mills in Omaha, then Pechos Upholstery in Lincoln until retiring in 1990. Lucille was a den mother for Cub Scouts and a Skylark leader in Pisgah. Lucille enjoyed working with her hands doing crafts and sewing. She was a very good cook, her family enjoyed holiday cooking and morel mushroom season. Lucille loved to hunt mushrooms and enjoyed sharing them with family even more than looking for them. After retirement, John and Lucille enjoyed traveling in their motorhome with Bud and Dorothy to Tucson, AZ where they would stay for the winter months. They enjoyed traveling, seeing much of the northwestern United States and Canada.

Lucille is survived by five children: Linda Viets and husband Phil from Watson, MO, Patty King from San Diego, CA, Danny Hinkel and wife Jeanie from Hartington, NE, Dean Hinkel from Onawa, IA and TJ Hinkel and wife Kyle from Utica, NE; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Estal Hinkel, Ival Hinkel, Robert Hinkel and Dwight Hinkel and four sisters, Betty Johnson, Barbara Sorenson, Edna Hopkins and Lorna Tillisch.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Marty and Velma Hinkel; husband, John Hinkel; two brothers, Roy and Lynn Hinkel and one sister, Margaret Nuzum.
