Ray “Bud” Kratz, 71, lifelong resident of Onawa, died March 30, 1986, at Burgess Memorial Hospital, Onawa.

He was born February 14, 1915, in Onawa to Harry and Grace (Etherton) Kratz. During World War II he served his country with the U.S. Army. He was employed by the city of Onawa in the Water Department for 28 years before retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the David McNeill American Legion Post No. 129 at Onawa.

Survivors include four sisters, Mrs. Effie Bergstrom of Onawa, Viola Bishop of Tacoma, Washington, Dorothy Smith of North Myers, Florida and Mrs. Martin (Doris) Swann of Adelphi, Md., a brother, Harry Kratz, Jr. of Sioux City, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Ruth Struble and Francis Crawford.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 1986, at the First Christian Church at Onawa with Rev. Jerry Quandt and Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Mrs. Vince Phillips, the organist, accompanied Mrs. Orville Rutledge who sang, “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Going Down The Valley.”

Honorary bearers were Emil Olson, Earl Rolph, Bernard Thrift, Harlan Grandgenett, Ernest “Doc” Holsclaw and Horton Pennington.

Active Bearers were Wayne Burgess, Ben Grandgenett, Jeff Sander, Everett Sorenson, Wilson Gruber and Steve Reynolds.

Interment was in the Onawa Cemetery with Military Grave-side Services by David McNeill American Legion Post No. 129, Onawa, LeRoy Kepner, Commander.

Arrangements were by the Pearson Funeral Home, Onawa.
