14 January 2016Doris M. Burson, 97, of Soldier, Iowa passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa with Pastor Joel Gueningsman, officiating. Burial will follow in the Jordan Cemetery, rural Soldier, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Doris Marie was born August 13, 1918 the daughter of Andrew and Annie (Skow) Shol on a farm near Moorhead, Iowa.
On February 20, 1940, she married George Burson. In 1945, she and George bought a farm near Soldier, Iowa, where they farmed for more than 30 years.
Doris and George had two sons, Larry and Kirby.
Doris was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church and was active in the Ladies Aid.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Burson and wife Terry of Casa Grande, AZ; Kirby Burson and wife Linda of Heber, Arizona; granddaughter, Carey Hladik and husband Mark of Mapleton, Iowa; great-granddaughter, Kaylie Smeltzer; and great-grandson, Ethan Hladik; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents, Andrew and Annie; two brothers, Elmer and Leslie Shol; and four sisters, Beatrice, Francis, Lola, and Alice.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Elmwood Care Centre for their care and kindness to Doris.
