SIOUX CITY | Betty J. Newman, 79, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Grant Cemetery at Rodney, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Betty was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Marlow "Mike" and Sophie (Hillman) Krusen. Betty was a resident of Sioux City for six years, Sergeant Bluff for four years, Sloan for nine years, Smithland for nine years, Moville for 14 years, and Hawarden for 12 years.

Betty was employed by various home health companies as an in-home senior companion. She loved working on crossword puzzles, playing cards and other board games with Scrabble being one of the most popular. She enjoyed listening to country music, loved reminiscing about her younger years and was always a good story teller.

Cherished memories are shared by Betty’s children, Pat Anderson and husband, Doug of Forsyth Mont., Scott Chandler and wife, Frankye of Sheridan, Wyo., Kelly Chandler of Glenrock, Wyo., Jody Chandler and wife, Tara of Glenrock, Wyo., Ronni Pospisil and husband, Corey of Yankton, S.D., and Mark Harms of Hartley, Iowa; sister, Mary Vellinga of Marshalltown Iowa; grandchildren, Mike Chandler, Amy Leonard, Sondra Chandler, Matt Chandler, Christopher Chandler, Joseph Chandler, Dalton Miller, Shannon Martin, Mark Hamman, Parker Harms, Preston Harms and Mason Harms; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marlow “Mike” and Sophie Krusen of Rodney, Iowa; one brother, Jack Krusen of Mapleton, Iowa; and one daughter, Terri Hamman of Glenrock, Wyo.
