24 September 2014MAPLETON, Iowa | Larry E. Miller, 77, of rural Mapleton passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, on his farm.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Harvey Hansen officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Larry Earl Miller was born in Mapleton, on Aug. 6, 1937, to W.E. Miller and Mary Louise (Sanford) Miller. He attended school in Mapleton and graduated from high school in 1955. When he was old enough, Larry worked for his dad at Miller Implement, often driving when an employee needed to get parts. He was also active in farming, and he especially liked working with the livestock. He did lots of overseas traveling in his younger years. When he became an uncle, he loved to play Santa for his nephew and niece.
Larry in his later life became a permanent fixture at Scoles Barber Shop, enjoying the free coffee and sharing stories. He was a dedicated fan at Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto athletic events. He took many trips with his friend, Ron Rude, many of them to the sale barn for strawberry pie.
Larry is survived by a brother, Rodger (Linda) of Mapleton; a nephew, Rodger J. Miller (Kerry) of Lawton, Iowa; and a niece, Tasha Tyriver (Scott) of Menomonee Falls, Wis. He was very proud of his three grandnieces, Charlotte Miller, Evanya and Ivy Tyriver. He is also survived by two aunts; one uncle; and several cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, W.E. and Mary Louise Miller; and his grandparents, Edward and Mary (Meyer) Miller and Bill and Anna (O'Leary) Sanford.
Memorial donations will be given to the Maple Valley-Anthon-Oto Community School Athletic Department.
