5 September 2014SERGEANT BLUFF | Betty Jean Cleveland, 84, of Sergeant Bluff, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her family.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 in Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton, Iowa. A luncheon and fellowship time will follow at Skien Lutheran Church at Albaton. Arrangements are with Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.
Betty Jean Shupe was born June 10, 1930, in Lake Township, the daughter of Carl and Ocha Alta (Duncan) Shupe. The family lived by the Fairview Township Cemetery, Albaton.
Betty and Warren Cleveland married March 11, 1950, in Dakota City, Neb.
Betty's biggest joys in life were her family and her flower gardens.
Survivors include seven sons and one daughter, Carl (Marla) Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Lloyd (Therese) Cleveland of Sioux City, Ron (Jane) Cleveland of South Sioux City, Don (Carla) Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Tim (Debra Svoboda) Cleveland of South Sioux City, Ken Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Pam Smith of Sergeant Bluff, and Todd (Kathy) Cleveland of Oto, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two brothers and five sisters, Gary Shupe, Mary (Mike) McInerney, Vera (Morey) Copple, Margaret (Denny) Bauman, Richard (Evie) Shupe, Nancy (Joe) Shelley, and Debbie (Kenneth) Poulsen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Cleveland; her parents; and eight brothers and three sisters, James, Hershel, Howard, Raymond, Edgar, Ernest, Duane, Robert, Rubye Pittman, Evonne Baker and Phyllis Bauer.
