Member of Mapleton Legion Post dies

William L. Clubine, age 73 of Mapleton, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Sioux City, Iowa.

Services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 30, at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton with Pastor Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mapleton, with military honors by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton. Sharon Kruse was the organist and soloist for the service and music was "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Armstrong Chapel.

William Lawrence Clubine was born March 9, 1927, at Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Millard and Mary (Cox) Clubine. He lived almost his entire life on a farm east of Mapleton. He graduated with the Mapleton High School Class of 1945. Bill served his country for two years in the United States Army. On February 23, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lucille Lane.

He was a member of the American Legion Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton.

Survivors include Lucille, his wife of 50 years; three sons, Michael and his wife, Jennifer of Boone, Iowa, Patton Clubine of Mapleton, Iowa, and Clayton and his wife, Leisa of Mundeline, Illinois; two sisters, Mabel Shaver of Sioux City, Iowa and Dorothy Ehlers of Dunlap, Iowa; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, along with many other relatives, neighbors and good friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and four sisters.

Pallbearers were Larry Mordhorst, Jim Fried, Charles Kloewer, Robert Lane, Elmer Palmer and Doug Seils.
