1 May 2014Bernice Link, 75, of Mapleton passed away Saturday, April 12, following a brief illness in El Paso, Texas.
Funeral services were held in El Paso, Texas, on April 18. A memorial service for Bernice will be held Saturday May 3, at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church in Ute.
Bernice Elaine (Parr) Link was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Onawa, to Charles and Flossie (McCall) Parr. She grew up around Castana and attended school at Castana. She married Donald Link in Yuma, Az. on April 24, 1955.
After the death of her husband, Donald, in El Paso, Texas, in 2003, she returned to Mapleton in 2004 to be closer to her family.
Bernice was a member of the Christian Church in Ute. Bernice was a courageous woman who survived cancer and lived through the Mapleton tornado that completely destroyed her home.
Bernice is survived by four sons and one daughter: Kenneth Link of Soldier, Kathy Parr of Castana, Chuck Link of Mapleton (fiancée April Tyree), Jerry Link (Debbie) of Soldier, and Eugene Link (Silvia) of El Paso, Texas; three brothers and two sisters: Paul Parr of Castana, Roberta (Jerry) O’Dell of North Sioux City, S.D., Bonnie Carlson of Ute, Jack Parr (Nora Jane) of Castana, Larry Parr of Battle Creek, and a step-brother LeRoy Peterson (Ponce) of Ohio; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Link; parents, Charles and Flossie Parr; step-mother, Louise Parr; and great-granddaughters, Cailey Berndt and Lezley Link.
