Adrienne Elaine Johnson, 91, of Onawa, Iowa, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa, after a valiant 5-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 17, 2014, at the Morningside Assembly of God in Sioux City, IA with Pastor Johnny Helton officiating. Private family burial will be in the Belvidere Cemetery, Turin, IA. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014, at the Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, IA with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, IA.

Elaine was born December 19, 1922, in Dexter, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Glen Dickson and Ruby Clair (Fritz) Dickson. She attended Elementary and High School at Menlo, Iowa, and graduated in 1940 as valedictorian of her class. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa), Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she received her (double major) teaching degree in English and Dramatics in 1944. She taught two years at Earlham, Iowa.

November 24, 1945, she married Virgil Ted Johnson, at the Methodist Church in Menlo, Iowa. They started farming near Fontanelle, Iowa, and in 1947 moved to Menlo, Iowa, where they continued livestock and grain farming and Elaine taught at Menlo High School from 1955-1956. They then moved to Onawa, Iowa.

From 1956-58 Elaine taught Jr. High English at Sloan (Consolidated School), Iowa. In 1958 she began teaching High School English and Dramatics at Mapleton High School and retired from teaching in June 1965. Elaine then sat for her insurance license and became the office manager in her husband's State Farm Insurance Office and retired with Ted January 31, 1987. Elaine enjoyed their retirement by camping and traveling the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Through her entire life she was very active in church organizations and service in the Methodist Church and the Assemblies of God. She taught numerous Stone Croft Bible studies.

Elaine was devoted to her husband of 68 years as partner and wife and dearly loved her family as Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. As a teacher she loved and encouraged her students; as a foster parent of Bryan (Gretchen) Fjeldos, she was committed to his care and nurture and she particularly enjoyed sharing her love of Jesus one-on-one with many people.

Elaine is lovingly remembered by her husband Virgil "Ted" Johnson, Onawa, Iowa; and a daughter Bonnie (Leon) Stevenson, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; three grandchildren, Julie (Jeff) Guffey, Bonner Springs, KS; Timothy Stevenson, Dallas, Texas; Becky Morey, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; and one great-granddaughter, Braydin Morey; one brother Robert (Mary) Glen Dickson, Jr., Menlo, Iowa, and many other family members, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Honorary bearers will be Richard Schlitter, Darrel Barber and Jon Morton.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
