ONAWA, Iowa -- Lawrence "Larry" Solorio, 88, of Onawa passed away Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Lawrence was born Aug. 21, 1918, in Ellis, Kan., the son of Thomas and Anna (Rumbach) Solorio. He was raised in Ellis and graduated from Ogallah High School. As a young man, he moved to Omaha and was employed in wing assembly for Martin Aircraft during World War II.

He married Madge Gallagher on May 8, 1948, in Omaha. The couple made their home and raised their three daughters in Omaha. He was a bus driver for Metro Area Transit for 35 years until his retirement in 1985. The couple moved to Onawa a year later.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his produce with those around him, family, neighbors, friends and residents of Cross Roads.

Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Madge of Onawa; three daughters, Kay and her husband, Ed Tucker of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Anita Gerum of Torrington, Conn., and Carol Hunter of Nampa, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Geraldine Lynn of Hornick, Iowa, and Mildred Carr of Whiting, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandchild, Mattison Eitmann; and a sister, Catherine Mudd.
