1 August 2013Gwen L. Hahn, 86 of Omaha, Neb., and formerly of Mapleton, passed away Monday, July 22, at Immanuel Fontenelle Home in Omaha, Neb.
Gwenith Lee Hahn was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Charter Oak, the daughter of Cleon Jasper and Effie (Sowles) Jordan. She grew up in the area and graduated with the Charter Oak High School class of 1945.
On June 8, 1947, Gwen was united in marriage to Herbert Hahn at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton. The couple made their home in Mapleton. While Herb was working outside the home, Gwen was busy as a homemaker and the mother of their four children. Herb and Gwen moved to Omaha, Nebraska Aug. 1, 2011.
She developed a deep appreciation for music, a tradition the Sowles family all shared and one she passed onto her own children. In conjunction with her love of music, Gwen found happiness dancing, especially square dancing and the polka.
When time allowed, Gwen also enjoyed playing cards, games and completing puzzles. She had a love of reading and shared that love in a special manner by reading to her children and grandchildren.
Gwenith, along with Herb, loved traveling and spent many winters in New Mexico and Texas.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past member of St. John's United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women's Circle.
Family members left to cherish their loving memories of Gwen are Herb, her husband of 66 years; her four children, Gary Hahn and his wife Jill of Omaha, Neb., Glenda Hahn, also of Omaha, Joyce Jensen and her husband Tom of Santa Fe, N.M., and Jon Hahn of Austin, Texas; and three grandchildren, Mallory Jensen and her fiancee Brian Crist and Andrew and Aaron Hahn; along with many other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; their first-born children, the Hahn triplets, David Paul, Dennis Eugene, and Steven Mark; three sisters, Vivian Evenson, Margaret Clark, and Louise Jordan; and one brother, Gerald Jordan.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Mapleton.
Pastor Harvey Hanson officiated the service. Message in Music was led by Laura Pedersen, soloist and family friend. Music included “Ave Maria” (on CD), “Amazing Grace” (on CD), and “The Lord’s Prayer” (on CD) by Andrea Bocelli.
Pallbearers were Jon Hahn, Heidi Richey, Richard Meyer, Bruce Bachmann, Mike Hahn, and Mark Hahn.
Visitation was held on Friday, July 26, after 5 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7 p.m. at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.
Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton.
Everyone was invited and encouraged to join the family for food and fellowship at the church following the interment.
