23 December 1909

The death of Mrs. Abel Wiese occurred on Wednesday afternoon, December 22, 1909, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Babbe, with whom she had resided for many years. Mrs. Wiese was born March 4, 1831, having reached the ripe old age of 78 years, 9 months and 18 days.

She was united in marriage to Jochim Wiese, who died in the year 1891. Soon after his deaths she followed her children to the United States, living since the year 1892 in the vicinity of Mapleton, with her children, where she enjoyed the rearing of her grandchildren and helped wherever a helping hand was needed. Wm. Wiese and Mrs. Henry Babbe of Cooper Township, Mrs. Anne Voege of Wall Lake and J. E. Wiese of Meriden are the children who mourn the death of a loving mother, and the memory of her can never be blotted out of the hearts of the children and grandchildren. There are seventeen grandchildren who will miss grandma, as she took especial delight in making Christmas the happiest day of the year in the homes of her children. She left a sealed letter to her children to be opened after her death. Living her life from childhood to this ripe old age. This letter will be read, at her request, at the funeral, which shows the Christian spirit that was woven all through her life.

The deceased was brought up in the German Lutheran faith and her motto was, "Do Unto Others as you would like to have them do unto you.” She always looked on the bright side during her painful illness of several months duration and never complained, but tried to impress upon those attending her that everything would turn out for the best.

Funeral services were conducted from the Babbe home this afternoon at 2 o’clock
