Richard Mosher Tripp, 56, of Mapleton died at his home following a long illness on Wednesday, June 11, 1980.

Services were held on Saturday, June 14, at 10:30 a.m. at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton. Pastor Mark Smeltzer officiated. Burial was in the Heisler Cemetery, with Military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion, Loren Hollister Post #496 of Mapleton.

Dick was born on October 16, 1923 to Everett and Ruth (Mosher) Tripp at Sioux City. In 1947, he married Jean Parker at Iowa City. He had lived in Mapleton and Des Moines and he was a salesman for a tool and equipment company, later moving to Iowa City and Hawaii.

A professional musician, Dick played trumpet for many well known big bands all over the United States. He was a member of the Eddie Howard band that played in this part of the country. Music was his life.

In 1958, Dick returned to Mapleton. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Loren Hollister Post #496 of the American Legion in Mapleton and a member of the Musicians Union.

He is survived by one son, Rick of Malibu, California and one daughter, Susan, Mrs. Roman Moreth, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His Father, Everett, age 87, lives in St. Petersburg, Florida; one brother, Robert of Valley, Nebraska, two sisters, Mrs. George (Betty) Rice of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mrs. Joan Dice of Cheshire, Connecticut.

He is preceded in death by his mother. Pallbearers were Darrell Uhl, Clifford LeFebvre, Clifford Reed, O.P. Bennett Jr., Ralph Edgington and Henry Kluver.
