John Thomas Is Buried Saturday
Long Time Resident of Mapleton and Smithland Dies in Hospital

Funeral services were held at the Byers Funeral home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for John Thomas 60 year old resident of Smithland. Mr. Thomas passed away In St. Vincent's hospital In Sioux City on Thursday, March 22, following a heart attack.

Rev George A. Osborn, pastor of St. John's Methodist church, officiated. Interment was in Heisler cemetery near Mapleton. Fred Johnk, Everett Persinger, John Chilton, Charles Hall, Fred Cory and Maynard Adams were pallbearers.

John Thomas was born near Glenwood, Ia., on January 11, 1879. He resided there until 45 years ago when he came to Mapleton. On January 14, 1903, he was married to Miss Mable Steele of .Mapleton.
They moved to Smithland 10 years ago, residing on a small acreage near there.

He is survived by his widow and one son, Joe, and 1 brother, Joe, Mike and Nick Thomas of Mapleton and Matt of Sloan, la. and one sister, Mrs. Isadore Uhl of Rimbey, Alberta, Canada.

Among the out-of-town relatives and friends here for the funeral were Mrs. Q. W. Sanford of Sioux City, Matt Thomas of Sloan, Mr. and Mrs. James Steele and family of Charter Oak and George Altmanshofer of Ida Grove.
