MRS. SONKSEN DIES; FUNERAL HELD TODAY

WAS RESIDENT OF MAPLETON 27 YEARS—ILL FOR SEVERAL
YEARS—SURVIVED BY EIGHT CHILDREN.

Johanna Sonksen, for 27 years a resident of Mapleton, died at her home Monday after suffering for several years with nervous trouble.

Mrs. Sonksen was born at Hamburg, Germany, March 18, 1855, and came to the United States with here parents when eight years old, settling at Lyons, Ia. in Clinton county.

At Lyons she was united with the Evangelical church by the rite of confirmation. Her parents died when she was 14 years old, after which she came to Denison, Ia., where she made her home with her oldest sister for a number of years.

Came Here In 1894

Mrs. Sonksen, whose maiden name was Boock, was united in marriage to Ferdinand Sonksen, August 4, 1888, at Denison. In 1891 the family came to the Mapleton community, where she lived the rest of her life, with the exception of two years, 1896-1898, when the family resided at Denison.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Sonksen is survived by eight children. They follow: Mrs. Hans Wacheldorf, Harvey Meevers, Mrs. Max Bartels, Barney Sonksen, Mrs. M. P. Jolinson, Richard Sonksen, and Mrs. Fred Johnk, all of Mapleton, and Mrs. Bertha Harder, of Morningside. Besides the children, there remain also a brother and a sister at Hanna, Wyo., four sons-in-law and two daughters-in-laws, nineteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral Today

Mrs. Sonksen was a devoted member of St. Peter's Evangelical .church, and the L. H. H. S. and always took an interest in the work of these organizations while she was still able. She also was a member of the Home Department of the Sunday school.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the Presbyterian Church by Rev. A. VonderOhe. Burial was made in the Heisler cemetery.
