Frances Margaret Sonksen, age 83, of Mapleton, Iowa, died Sunday, January 7, 1990 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services were held on Thursday, January 11, 1990 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Mapleton with Pastor Richard Hempenius officiating. Mrs. Naomi Kahrs was the organist and the congregation sang, "God Will Take Care Of You" and "How Great Thou Art". Burial was in Heisler Cemetery in Mapleton. A prayer service was held on Wednesday evening, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the Walter Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Sonksen, the former Frances Ruchti was born Jury 13, 1906 to John and Elsabe (Hass) Ruchti in Crawford County and came to Mapleton at the age of two with her parents. She married Richard Sonksen January 27, 1926, in Mapleton. The couple farmed in the Mapleton community and retired in 1960. They moved into Mapleton in 1976. Mr. Sonksen died January 18, 1983.

Mrs. Sonksen was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ and the Women’s Fellowship of the Church. She was a member of Loren Hollister Post #496, American Legion Auxiliary. Senior Citizens Group, Order of Eastern Star and Woodmen Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two grandsons, David Frautschi and Steven Helm and a brother Cornelius Ruchti.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Edmund (Mildred) Jacobs of Ida Grove, Mrs. Lester (Beulah) Renken of Lindsay, Nebraska, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Peduzi of Huntington Beach, California, Mrs. Anna Frautschi of Saratoga, Wyoming and Mrs. Lavern (Fern) Langbein of Lake View; three sons, Walter of Avoca, Marvin of Mapleton and Elmer of Clear Lake; two sisters, Mrs. Esther Nathlich and Mrs. Arline Sasges, both of Mapleton; four brothers, Rudolph Ruchti of Lake View, Walter Ruchti of South Sioux City, Merle Ruchti of Mapleton and Carl Ruchti of Ida Grove; 23 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Louis Kuehl, John Lintin, Donald Willson, John Jacobs, Gary Castle and Dale Campbell.
