Death of Josie Pershing

After only a short week's illness from a trouble which seems to have paralyzed the organs of her throat, the life of Miss Josie Pershing, a well known Mapleton young lady, was brought abruptly to an end on last Sunday morning, April 11, at 1:15 o'clock, at her home in this city.

Josephine Pershing was born in Mapleton, Iowa, June 3, 1888, and was 20 years, 10 months and 8 days old. She had grown to womanhood in this city, where she had always taken active interest in social and church work, and where her sudden leave-taking will be almost as sadly regretted as in her own home lacking only one year of completing the course she left the high school about four years ago to take a position in the local telephone office, where she has since been employed, and where by her pleasing manners, kind and courteous treatment she had become a great favorite with her employers and the patrons of the office.

She had suffered constantly during the past two years from Bight’s disease, which contributed largely toward terminating her life.

She leaves a widowed mother, one brother and three sisters, and a large circle of friends to mourn her untimely death.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Monday forenoon by Rev. O. S. Bryan and the remains taken to Grant cemetery where they were interred, by the side of other members of the family. Those present at the funeral from out of town were: Cornelius Lone of Holstein; Helen Garber of Dentin: Anna Voleson, Ricketts: Mrs. W. H. Otto, and Misses Iva Otto, Jane Lawson and Miss James of Castana, and Mrs. L. Greenstreet, Ticonic
