Hiram Niles Hollister was born April 11, 1875 in Maple Township, Monona County, Iowa. He married Edith Romaine Carmen on Dec. 25, 1897 and to this union were born five daughters and two sons He died at the Methodist hospital in Sioux City, Friday, Jan. 11, 1963 at the age of 87 years and nine months.

Mr. Hollister spent his entire life in Monona County, where he farmed for many years. He also acted as a county supervisor from 1915 through 1921. He was widely known for his mechanical ability and maintained a well-equipped shop in which he spent much of his time. For several years he operated two threshing machines one of them being the largest ever used in this area. He was an avid hunter and was widely known for his ability with guns, both as a crack shot and as a gunsmith, a hobby which he maintained and frequently indulged in until his final illness.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; a son, Hiram, who died in infancy; a brother, George; and three sisters, Ella, Addie, and Ida.

Survivors include: his son Orville of Glendale, Cal.; five daughters, Lela (Mrs. Ray Harsh) and Mrs. Margie Harsh, both of Rodney, Elsie (Mrs. Francis Renshaw) and Dorothy (Mrs. Orville Thayer) of Storm Lake, and Mina (Mrs. Roy Moore) of Hornick; a brother, Lester of Hall, Mont.; four sisters, Mrs. Lucy Chilton of Topock, Ariz., Mrs. Myrtle Faust and Mrs. Hazel Batman of Salem, Ore., and Mrs. Nell McLain of Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 14, at the Rodney Congregational church, with Rev. Keith Scott of Hornick officiating. Pallbearers were Waldron Willman, Tracy Cleveland, Max Smith, Harold Fowler, Wilfred Uhl and Lowell Aldrich. Burial was made in Grant cemetery under the direction of the Willman funeral home.
